So this week I wanted to read some comics that I have never heard of, yet would grasp my interest. For the past few months when I walk by the Graphic Novel section I keep seeing these big volumes of a Japanese manga called Akira. So after a reading the first volume in about thirty minutes (the volume is about over three hundred pages long. I was that into it). So naturally, I bought the three volumes that were available in the store. I just read all of them in the course of three days, and now I’m ordering the last three to finish reading.
The world is set in 2030, thirty years after world war III happened by a powerful nuclear bomb. Now Tokyo is Neo-Tokyo, and the story follows two young teenagers. Kaneda, leader of a motorcycle gang and Tsetuo, his friend that was in a accident and returns with psychokinesis abilities. There is so much to the story than just the two teenagers, and it’s just so exciting and surprisingly easy to follow all those subplots.
I highly recommend Akira if you’re looking for a new Sci-fi thriller, because it really reflects society and their reaction to a nuclear threat in a country.
This book is definitely an inspiration in my life now.
